Estate agent web design project goes live!

A modern mobile friendly website and intuitive back office admin built in Drupal for a local estate agent.

With seven miles of fantastic beaches, Bournemouth is a vibrant, popular destination to move to. Bullock & Lees are an established estate agents in Bournemouth, trading for many years but their website hadn't kept up with how potential buyers search for properties on mobile devices - not having a mobile friendly website was impacting on enquiries as users were not easily able to access the original website when driving around the area looking for a potential new home.

Bullock & Lees came to us with a very clear brief - they wanted a fresh, modern site that was mobile friendly and had an intuitive back end system in order to quickly add and amend properties to keep up with demand.

As all of our websites are designed 'mobile first', meaning that we design for a mobile screen then scale up to tablet, desktop and larger screens, and we use Drupal as a content management system for its simplicity and ease of use, the brief fitted neatly with the way we naturally work.

The design and build

Just like with any house move, the first task was de-cluttering. Bullock & Lees have been trading for over 25 years, so we wanted to stay true to the brand they've built up over this time, whilst giving it a modern, future-proofed makeover. We held workshops with Bullock & Lees to understand what was important to them, what design aspects of the existing brand they wanted to keep and crucially, what was important to their future house hunters.

Armed with this information and ideas buzzing, a few sketches and mood boards later, our designers settled on a bright, inviting design fit for a forward thinking estate agency. Our developers then used this to build a user friendly website that looks great on any screen size and is perfect for browsing on the go.

Content management

Our workshops also allowed us to ascertain what Bullock & Lees wanted from their website admin area on a day to day basis. The resounding conclusion was that it should be quick and simple to use with minimal training.

Using this brief, we removed all unnecessary features and functions from the Drupal content management system resulting in a clean, intuitive back office system. In the past, Bullock & Lees had experienced problems adding and amending properties using a clunky admin system. We knew our new system would be much more efficient.

This collaborative approach allows each of our projects to be as much owned by our clients as it is a product of our designers and developers.

Full training on how to use the back office admin was provided on site a few weeks before the new site was due to go live. This provided Bullock & Lees with time to become familiar with the new system without the pressure of the site being live. This controlled roll out also provided the opportunity to feed back (and change) anything that needed fine tuning prior to the final switch on, minimising the risk of potential issues when presented to the house buying public.

The final result is a website that’s modern and easy to use for both front end and back end users equally.
